Kathy Wunder, Retired Director of Information and Communications Technology, Vancouver Police Department

Ms. Wunder recently retired as the Director in Charge of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Section at the Vancouver Police Department. She is currently working part time as an advisor/support to the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Committee.

Kathy has spent the last 36 years working at all levels of Information Technology, starting as an application programmer in Europe and then Ottawa. After a move west as a Programmer Analyst with the City of Victoria, Kathy moved into Public Safety starting as a System Analyst with the Victoria Police Department.

Kathy moved to Vancouver to become the Public Safety Systems Manager for E-Comm 9-1-1 and was instrumental in standing up the operation. She was responsible for the implementation of the first multi-jurisdictional tri-service Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) implementation, transitioning 11 Fire Departments, 2 Police Departments and the British Columbia Ambulance service onto the same shared platform.

Kathy was also the Project Manager for phase 1 of PRIME-BC, transitioning Vancouver Police, Port Moody Police, and Richmond RCMP onto the PRIME Records Management System (RMS), while overseeing the Information Technology team involved in the day-to-day maintenance and support of the systems. Director Wunder later took on the role of Implementation Manager for Phase 3 of the Prime Initiative. Phase 3 involved transitioning all Municipal Police Departments, outside the Capital Regional District (CRD), onto the shared CAD and RMS.

Kathy is a past Chair of the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) Information Technology Sub Committee (ITSC), past advisor to the National Police Information Portal (PIP) Committee, past Chair of the National Police Information Services (NPIS) Information Technology Sub Committee (ITSC) and advisor to the NPIS Advisory Board. She is also past Co-Chair of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Committee.

Currently, Kathy volunteers as the Vice-Chair of the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) Foundation.
